Kaiser Aluminum to close Texas extrusions plant - Recycling Today

Tennessee-based Kaiser Aluminum is taking measures to idle its soft alloys aluminum extrusions plant in Sherman, Texas.

The first full week of June, Kaiser filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice affecting 75 employees at the facility that estimates a layoff date of July 11.

The week starting June 10, a report from KXII-TV confirms via a Kaiser spokesperson that the company intends to close the 60-year-old facility, but the report notes the future of the 194,000-square-foot facility has not yet been decided by Kaiser.

In 2022, a fire at the facility, as reported by Argus Media, was tied to the company’s soft alloy aluminum extrusions production process that uses scrap.

Kaiser Aluminum makes extruded soft alloys in several shapes, including tubes, pipes, rods and bars.

The Kaiser Sherman facility is about 50 miles from the aluminum extrusions plant in Commerce, Texas, that has received attention this decade from Norway-based Norsk Hydro. Both cities are northeast of Dallas.
